Who is eligible for testing?
You are eligible if you have been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy or a channelopathy, or if a parent, sibling, or child received a positive result through Heartgene.
How much does the test cost?
The test is provided at no charge. It is paid for by Heartgene's sponsored testing program. You do not need insurance and will not receive a bill.
What kind of sample is needed?
A cheek swab sample is collected at home using the kit we mail you. No blood draw and no clinic visit is needed.
What does the test look for?
The test analyzes 57 genes associated with inherited heart conditions, including cardiomyopathies and channelopathies.
How long does it take to get results?
Most results are available in 6-8 weeks after the lab receives your sample.
Who will see my results?
Your identifiable information is shared only with you, the genetic counselor (if a genetic change is found), and your healthcare provider if you provide their information. Your results are not sent to any other party. Heartgene does not sell personal data.
Who will explain my results to me?
If you include your healthcare provider's information, they will receive your results and can review them with you. If a genetic change is found, a licensed genetic counselor is also available at no cost to walk you through what the results mean for you and your family.
What if no genetic change is found?
A negative result means no known genetic cause was identified. Your care team may still recommend monitoring, and other follow-up.
